Book Projects (quarterly)
Each quarter your child is expected to read a book (except the quarter they do a Book Talk). The book must be at his or her independent level, which means that they should be able to read 80-90% on their own but they should encounter words they are not familiar with. This presents a learning opportunity and expands their vocabulary. It is encouraged, but not mandatory, that the students read a variety of genres throughout the year. This exposes them to an even wider range of new words as well as new concepts.
There are 15 different types of Book Projects the students may choose from:
-Book in a Box Book Project
-Timeline Book Project
-Mobile Book Project
-Shoebox Diorama Book Project
-Collage Book Project
-Movie Poster Book Project
-Graphic Chapter Book Project
-Main Character Book Project
-Setting Book Project
-Scrapbook Book Project
-PowerPoint Book Project
-Glossary and Word Search Book Project
-Board Game Book Project
-Letter Exchange Book Project
-Create a Test Book Project
At the start of every quarter the students will select a project they are interested in, and have not already done. They will receive a directions page and a rubric when they select the type of project they'd like to do. Then they will choose a book to read and complete the project by the end of the quarter. All work for Book Projects is done at home.
If the Book Project directions and/or rubric are ever misplaced or forgotten below are links to each log. Please feel free to assess these as needed.
