Reading Logs

Readings Logs are a part of the required weekly homework. The purpose of a reading log is for students to be engaged with the text they are reading at home. As they read a book that is at their appropriate level they will be encountering challenging words and ideas. The reading logs will have them thinking and putting to use the new words and concepts they are learning.

Generally, reading logs are given as homework at the start of the week and are due the last day of the week.

Students are to read 20 minutes nightly and then work on a section of the reading log based on information they just read in that 20 minutes. They're are going to be times that students are busy with extracurricular activities and they may need to read more and work on reading logs longer some evenings in order to compensate for missed time. That is totally appropriate as that teaches the students life long skills of prioritizing and time management.
